Tesla's suggested methods for towing the Model S must be followed. Click the MANUFACTURES MANUAL link under DOCUMENTS below to get the whole Model S towing manual!!!!
Make use of a flatbed
A wheel lift and dolly can only be used to carry your vehicle over a short distance in order to load it onto a flatbed truck or similar transport vehicle, or if Tesla specifies otherwise. Because the Model S lacks a wheel lock, the steering wheel must be fastened when being transported from the back using dollies.
Warning: The vehicle has high-voltage components. It is critical to presume that these components have been affected as a result of an event (such as a collision) that may have compromised a high voltage component before transferring.
The components have been energized. Always adhere to high-voltage safety precautions until emergency responders have inspected the vehicle and can reliably establish that all high-voltage systems have been deactivated. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury or death.
Self-Leveling is disabled (air suspension vehicles only) If your car has Smart Air Suspension, it will automatically self-level even when the engine is turned off. To avoid damage, switch to Jack mode and disable self-leveling:
1. On the touchscreen, go to Touch Controls > Suspension.
2. To increase height, press the brake pedal and then touch Very High.
3. Make contact with Jack.
When Jack mode is enabled, your car will display an indicator light on the instrument panel, as well as a message indicating that active suspension is disabled.
When driving speeds reach 4 mph (7 km/h), Jack mode is turned off.
Warning: If you don't enable Jack mode on a vehicle with Smart Air Suspension, it can cause the vehicle to crash.
loosening during shipment, posing a serious risk of harm
Tow Mode should be enabled. When your vehicle detects the driver exiting the vehicle, it may automatically shift into Park.
even if it has been moved to Neutral before. You must use the touchscreen to enable Tow mode to keep your vehicle in Neutral (which disengages the parking brake):
1. Put the car in park.
2. Chock the tires or make sure they're in good shape in any other way.
Your automobile is in good condition.
3. Press and hold the brake pedal, then turn the ignition on.
Touch Controls on the Touchscreen >
Tow Mode > Service
When Tow Mode is engaged, your car's instrument panel illuminates this light, along with a message indicating that the vehicle can roll freely.
To turn off Tow mode, put your vehicle in Park.
Caution: If the electrical system fails and you are unable to release the electric parking brake, try to release the parking brake manually.
The 12V battery must be jump-started. Call Tesla Roadside Assistance for instructions. Use a self-loading dolly or tire skates if you can't disengage the parking brake.
Always check the manufacturer's specifications and recommended load capacity before doing so
